Lovell Auto Co: Release One by Fort George Brewery

Thick and intense flavors of ripe tropical fruit, just a smidge of pine resin to tame it back down. Elevated by heat from the high alcohol. 4/5 stars.

This beer was shared by a good friend from his Lovell Auto Co membership box. It was exclusively offered to members, and not available for purchase or consumption by the general public at Fort George Brewery. If you live in Oregon or Washington, there’s still room to become a member in 2022! Just follow this link to sign up.

Speaking of good friends, this beer was part of the lineup in our weekly gathering. I wrote a bit about the origins and evolution of our pandemic bubble group in this post. Since abandoning D&D, we have added a different ritual of themed dinners. Each week we decide on a theme or main dish. My wife and I team up to make one course, our friends make another, and our roommate makes a third. Sometimes that means we have multiple entrees, or multiple desserts, or a lot of appetizers. But, there is never a shortage of food. We have done a pie themed dinner, where I made a Bon Appétit recipe for pigeon pie (no actual pigeons), my wife made her Tomato Corn Pie and a peach pie, our roommate made an improvised parfait pie (yogurt in a graham cracker crust topped with fruit), and our friends brought a marionberry pie. We’ve done make-your-own nacho and burrito bars, a Thanksgiving runner-up dinner (recipes that we wanted to try but didn’t make the cut for the Thanksgiving menu), and many more. This week was Mac & Cheese. We had two entries for entree, my wife’s spicy mac and our friend’s take on the NYT Creamy Macaroni and Cheese recipe. Both were winners, and both were hefty. Mom, in case you’re reading this, we also had roasted broccoli (and strawberry-topped angel food cake).

It’s truly amazing how food and beer can bring people together. Gifting food to someone can make them an instant friend, or help them feel supported during a tough time. Grabbing a beer with a coworker lets them know, “We’re on a different level than coffee.” Can you imagine a festival of hundreds of people coming together for coffee in the same way that they will for beer? Think about that the next time Wally from Finance hands you a cold brewski. It’s possible that he likes you and respects you!
