Fruit Distortion: Berries by Vagabond Brewing

(Strawberry/Raspberry/Boysenberry variant.) Not overly impressed, was hoping for more fruit and/or more sour. Or, a bit more push in the farmhouse direction (woody/funky/dry) would be another good option. Just sits in the middle, undecided. 2.5/5 stars.

When I think about a beer and its rating, I loosely follow the guidelines set out in BeerAdvocate. If you’d like to learn more about thoughtful ratings, check out this post. Breaking down the beer by each sensory aspect, here’s the full review.

Look: Light pink fluffy head with strong lacing. Opaque red color with hints of orange. 3.5/5

Smell: Strawberries and raspberries with hint of funk. 3.5/5

Taste: Fleeting hint of strawberry followed immediately by tart raspberry and boysenberry. Finish is drying, vinous, and bitter. 2/5

Feel: Medium-light body with aggressive carbonation. 3/5

Overall: Fruit flavors can easily be lost in the tart-bitter combo. Needs more residual sugar to fill out strawberry in particular, or to go drier to emphasize the sour. Leaves a slightly dissatisfying taste as most of the sour and fruit disappear under the bitter twiggy finish. 2/5
