Light, spicy, nice earthy and citrusy balance. 4.25/5 stars.
Warning: you’re going to see a lot of beers from Wolves & People on this blog. It’s one of my favorite breweries in the metro, they have outdoor seating, their beer is consistently interesting and delicious, and it’s only ten minutes away from my house. Oh, and I joined their Cellar Society this year. They don’t compensate me for saying nice things, and I pay for my beer, so trust my words.
Let’s briefly look at this beer, because it has an interesting story. Wild Queen is so-named because the yeast was harvested from the beehives on W&P’s property. They have cultivated the yeast and named it Forager (after the hardworking bees). How cool is that? Wild Queen, like many of the beers at this brewery, changes slightly from one brewing to the next. Fitting for a beer with a name like that, isn’t it?
Speaking of wild queens, my younger daughter (F) just turned three months old today! It’s interesting how her personality continues to evolve as she gets older, and how she’s already diverging from her older sister’s (H’s) mannerisms at the same age. Both girls have pretty similar temperaments, tending towards quiet observation but making their desires clearly known when needed. F takes a slightly more extreme approach though. During her first week of life, she didn’t cry once. We knew she was hungry because she would start grunting and wiggling, but otherwise she just laid there quietly and looked around. Granted, that’s not abnormal for pre-term babies (she was born at 37 weeks, so technically full-term but only by a day), but compared to her sister it was incredible. H spent the first several weeks of her life in 90-minute intervals; 15 minutes awake while eating and having a diaper change, followed by 5 minutes dozing as we burped and rocked her, then 70 minutes sleeping. If her sleep was disrupted for whatever reason, she was awake until the end of the 90-minute interval when she would reset. F, contrastingly, was sleeping three to four hours at night by week two, and has continued increasing up to nine or more hours every night. I know her sleep will change and regress at some point, but right now she’s almost sleeping as long as her older (3.5-year-old) sister! However, she does not like to sleep during the day. She will nap for as long as someone holds her (and doesn’t move), but wakes up five minutes after being set in her bassinet. I’m not complaining (too loudly) because I prefer to get my sleep in one chunk at night, but it’s so much harder to play with a toddler-cum-teenager when holding a baby. I’m definitely looking forward to when they both enter the next phase where they can self-entertain for a bit longer. She also becomes upset very quickly when she’s hungry. Like, five minutes from quiet to screeching. It’s tough when Mom isn’t home and it takes me longer than that to put a bottle together for her, typically ending with both of us feeling quite flustered and upset. H was a bit more gracious when it came to waiting for a meal, but she was also a great eater as a baby.
